twat = female genitals. Though it has been surpassed in rudeness by the c word and can be used in a kind of endearing way as well as an insult.

If I said you were a twat, it basically means you are a knobhead or a cnut (women don't like that word). But you can also say of something or a situation, "what a twat" or "it was a right twat" - meaning what a ball ache or a pain in the bum. There again you can use the word twatted, which means "I twatted him" as in I gave him a right smack, or I hit him; or "I got right twatted" which means you got really really drunk. It's a very versatile word, but officially a twat is a lady's front bottom. lol

That has to be one of my pet hates - that word as well as swear word's I just think it is derogatory!
Ok ...let's get this straight once and for all.....this word has absolutely nothing to do fish whether they are gold, pregnant ( which they cannot be because they are egg layers ) or anything else. Anybody who thinks there is a connection.....is a twat!
